Well, the spring storms got going just when I thought we would be spared a tough stormy season this year. The winds did a lot more damage this year even though they were not as bad as some prior years. I guess it is just our trees in our yard getting older. Two of the biggest elm trees came down. One actually got uprooted. I think digging by the utility companies at the sidewalk and street damaged the root structure on that side weakening it. The wind pulled it up on that side, and calling a tree service in Long Island was necessary to get rid of the two that fell and to trim the rest of the trees in our yard.
We had an oak that was getting too big too. We were going to try and just cut it back as much as possible, but it was better to bring it down. Continue reading
We have a furnace and an AC system that is connected to a HEPA filtration system and one of those fancy electrostatic filters. We are not always running the heat or AC, but we did not have a “fan” only option to turn on the forced air blower to take advantage of the high-end filter. It is great when cooking or other odors begin to fill the house. Part of the HEPA system includes ultraviolet and charcoal air filtering. We called our local HVAC repair in NYC to install the needed parts for us to be able to turn on the blower unit to circulate household air through the system when it was too warm for the furnace yet to cool for the AC to run. We live at the end of a private road that’s not owned by the state of New York. We are responsible for maintaining it and keeping it clear of snow in the winter. We have to pay to have trees removed if they fall down too, or we have to do it ourselves. I have been out there in the summer with neighbors patching potholes on our paved road after a harsh winter. We’ve been saving to get it repaved, and it was time for a company that does road paving in Nassau County NY to come out and do the job.
We had to work out an agreement of how we would pay for it. We all have varying lot sizes along the road, so we decided to pay for the road section based on how much property frontage we owned that bordered the road. Continue reading
I flip houses for a living. When there is one where I see a lot of potential, my bargaining side comes out. There are a lot of things I have to take into consideration, because some places are just not worth it, no matter how cheap of a price I get for it. If it costs pennies on the dollars, but it costs me hundreds of thousands of dollars to fix, then it’s usually not worth it. For a house I looked at the other day, I had to consider roof installation in Brooklyn NY.
The foundation and structure of the house are really solid, and there is so much potential there. Continue reading
